Ok, this is a long shot, but could you try the following:

$ git clone git://hjemli.net/pub/git/cgit
$ cd cgit
$ make get-git
$ make test

The last `make` invocation compiles a fresh cgit binary and puts it
through the cgit test-suite, which hopefully can give us some further
clues about your cgit issues.
