I have a git server with cgit running on CentOS 6 as well.
I use in cgitrc:
> source-filter=<path>/syntax-highlighting.bash
Which is in the cgit tree as filters/syntax-highlighting.sh
Install highlight (from EPEL) and adjust the script for the installed
version of highlight, which should be v3.
