Hi folks,

In this commit, I make use of associative arrays:

This makes us dependent on bash 4. OSX only has bash 3. Probably we
shouldn't introduce such a dependency.

So, people who care about macs: care to reimplement the part of this
function that uses associative arrays in a bash 3 friendly way?
