Darwin platform improvement

Hello,

I'd like to suggest the following patch.
On my laptop, running brew everytime to get the gnu-getopt command is very
time consuming:

Without the patch: 0.44s user 0.20s system 68% cpu 0.938 total
With the patch: 0.03s user 0.02s system 17% cpu 0.255 total
