connect to existing GIT repo

Thanks. Gave that a try, but getting another error:

pass git reset --hard origin master
fatal: ambiguous argument 'origin': unknown revision or path not in the
working tree.
Use '--' to separate paths from revisions, like this:
'git <command> [<revision>...] -- [<file>...]'

Think I need a crash course in revision control..
