What is your concern exactly? To me it seems not very well maintained
and still plagued by a few issues and limitations, but some features at
least functional, as it seems to be the case with ydotool type.

I think the idea of --type is to eliminate the need to use the clipboard
as it is easily accessible by unprivileged processes and thus
potentially easier to log by malicious software than the xdotool-based
approach.
