GPG is now a poor encryption tool?

GnuPG is still widely regarded as an industry standard.
However, I have recently come across some negative press against GnuPG. ie GPG.
For example, the following post:

https://latacora.micro.blog/2019/07/16/the-pgp-problem.html

The GPG tool is claimed to be not very secure by modern standards, and
has a legacy code-base that holds the project back.
In response, there are other encryption projects that aim to be much
better. eg https://sequoia-pgp.org/

Just wondering, what the community thinks about GPG, and whether it
still deserves to continue to be used as the encryption engine for
Pass?
